Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

17th-century wall brackets and corbels are structural or decorative timber projections designed to support mantels, beam ends, or display shelves. Often carved from native European oak, these pieces feature motifs such as acanthus leaves, scrolls, and strapwork reflective of Renaissance and Jacobean design.

Period corbels were typically hand-carved from dense, slow-grown solid oak using chisels and gouges. They were constructed with integrated mounting points or mortise slots to secure them directly into masonry or heavy timber framing.

Authentic 17th-century pieces display hand-tool marks, natural timber shrinkage across the grain, and dark, layered wax patination in recesses. Wear patterns are usually uneven, and historical mounting holes or original iron fixings are often present.

These architectural elements can be mounted on a wall to support a floating mantelpiece or narrow display shelf. Alternatively, they function as standalone sculptural objects when mounted on a neutral wall surface or displayed within a wall alcove.

Clean the carved surfaces using a soft, dry bristle brush to remove dust from recesses without abrading the finish. Apply a thin layer of clear beeswax polish annually to protect the timber and maintain the depth of the original patination.
