This super rare and impressive piece is made of solid "red walnut"
In the USA this wood is referred to as "virginia black walnut" its official name.

In the early 1700,s there was a european blight of walnut trees. Most were dead by 1720.
British ships going to the USA with supplies etc often came home empty .

Enterprising cabinetmakers of the period started using it in furniture making. It preceded mahogany from south america by 20 or so years.
This piece is one of a scarce group made out of this timber
It measures 228cms h 96cms wide and 55cms deep.

In remarkable original condition it is 100% perfect and the colour is rich and deep.
Oak lined drawers and adjustable shelving in the bookcase.
The brass hardware is original
