Antique Boxes and Collectables has dated this Victorian Burr Walnut Jewellery Box to the Victorian era.
Mid-late Victorian inlaid burr walnut jewellery box in beautiful condition. Attractive grain. Though very subtle and easily missed the edges of the lid and the two front verticals comprise of edging that is made up of two separate pieces with the grain running diagonally to give the impression of a chevron style edging. There is just one very small (approximately 2.5cm) that has been restored across half the width of the edging at the top edge of the left upright but has been neatly done and it IS nit- picking. The lid closes perfectly square on the original hinges. The lock, although it looks to be original is I believe a replacement….again very neatly done but if you look very closely you will be able to see that the key hole is slightly off centre. That’s all in terms of the defects but it is only right and proper that defects are stated rather than rely on ‘let the buyer beware’. The box interior has been refurbished to a high standard. Silk ruched panel set within a silk covered frame to the lid interior. The tray comprises of 14 sections, 2 of which feature silk covered lids with ornate gilt ring pull knobs. Please note the nice finishing touch of the silk covered upper edges of the tray and all of the dividers to complement the lids and inner lid panel. Side metal handles to assist in removing the tray to access the storage area beneath that features a lightly covered silk panel to the base. The small storage areas of the tray and large open area of the storage area beneath ensures that this box is ideal for storing both small and large items of jewellery. Nice item.
