Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Emerging in the early nineteenth century, faux bamboo furniture reflected the Regency eras fascination with Chinoiserie and exotic oriental aesthetics. Craftsmen turned domestic hardwoods like beech or pine to mimic bamboo nodes, finishing them with paint, lacquer, or ebonisation.

These chairs were constructed from carved timber turned to simulate natural bamboo stalks, finished with ebonised or dark paint and highlighted with gilt paint. The seats were fitted with hand-woven natural rattan cane for lightweight support.

Authentic pieces from circa 1820 feature hand-turned timber nodes rather than cast or molded materials, accompanied by natural age-related wear to painted surfaces. Inspection of the frame underside typically reveals historic joinery, pegging, and original hand-caning techniques.

Position this pair symmetrically beside a fireplace, within a bay window, or flanking a hallway console table to anchor a space. Their dark ebonised frames and graphic silhouettes offer strong contrast against neutral contemporary walls.

Dust surfaces gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical sprays that could lift historical paint layers. To prevent brittle cane, lightly mist the underside of the woven seat with water annually while keeping the chair away from direct heat sources.
