Description:
This is a charming rustic antique English Georgian elm chest, which retains its original lock and steel handles, with ample storage space inside, circa 1820, in good original condition.
The Georgian trunk has been constructed with a single-plank flat top (a sign of quality), with a cleated moulding, above single plank sides, front and back. The elm timbers display a stunning grain configuration and colour. Retaining the original steel carrying handles and key escutcheon, the elm chest also retains the original working steel lock (with key) and brass key escutcheon. The interior is clean, dry, practical and usable. The lid retains its original steel strap hinges, which are in good working condition. The interior also retains its original floorboards and backboards. The Georgian elm chest sits on its original small bracket feet. The back of the trunk retains its original panels along with the original floorboards. The Georgian elm chest has been cleaned and wax-polished by hand in our workshop, to a professional standard, therefore the colour and patination are of an excellent standard.

...on. Owing to its rustic / provincial provenance, there are old use marks visible to the top (see photos) and leading edges; all of which adds to the character, age and appeal of this Georgian trunk. Evidence of historical woodworm, which has been thoroughly treated. Please note, it is common for most elm chests of this age to have signs of historical woodworm, as this was a susceptible timber. The Georgian elm chest has been cleaned and wax-polished by hand, in our workshop, to a professional standard. The Georgian elm chest lid retains its original working steel lock and key. The interior is clean, dry, and usable and retains its original candle box. The original steel strap hinges and original steel side carrying handle are in good working condition. The trunk retains its original lid, floor, sides and back. The Georgian trunk is solid in joint; it does not wobble on the floor and is ready to use.
