Robert Belcher Antiques has dated this piece to the 1860s.
The hinged sloping top has a thick bevelled glass aperture to view the stored watch and look at the time.

The watch is located in a separate lift out velvet lined tray and there is a space below for a watch chain and fob.
The case has a brass button on the front edge which locks and unlocks the box when opened on its sturdy brass hinge.

This is the finest watch case/ holder we have ever offered for sale. It also comes with a solid silver pocket watch which fits the case and displays very well. The watch would need attention if it were required to work properly.
