A Large French Terracotta Depicting the Bust of Queen Luise of Prussia.

An excellent decorative French terracotta life size bust depicting Queen Luise of Prussia sculpted initially by the Berlin sculptor Johann Gottfried Shadow (1764 - 1850). She is wearing a head scarf and showing a lace neckline mounted onto a suckle and displayed on a turned and moulded mahogany stand with an inset top to locate the terracotta bust. In all a very pleasing piece with a good size and presence. French, circa 1910.

Queen Luise enjoyed enormous popularity in Prussia as a symbol of resistance to Napoleon, becoming a cult figure after she died in 1810.
