This is a pair of Georgian, mouth-blown, composite stem candlesticks dating from the mid 18th century, c1750.
The sticks are in good condition for their age. They show age related wear and tear to the rims of the feet consistent with some 270 years of use.
The candlesticks have wrythen-moulded cylinder-shaped candle holder bowls measuring 6 cm (2.4 inches) in diameter at the everted rims. The bowls sit on short pieces of hourglass shaped multi spiral air twist stems, above eight-sided pedestals with diamonds to the top, above triple collars above basal teared knops. The stems lead to domed and moulded feet which measure 11.3 cm (4.5 inches) in diameter and which carry rough pontil marks to the undersides. The candlesticks are 21.7 cm (8.6 inches) in height. One of the candlesticks has an internal flaw to the lower part of the candle holder which looks like a crack but which cannot be felt on the external surface. It is probably the result of the heat generated by a candle being allowed to burn down too low. The same candlestick appears to have had a small part of the foot edge ground to presumably remove a flake chip.
There are no chips, cracks (other than mentioned above), significant scratches or any other obvious evidence of restoration.
English lead glass. The candlesticks weigh 420 g. (~ 15 oz.) and 460 g. (~ 16 oz.).
