Silver & Enamel Three Lions Shield Menu Holders With The Oriel College, Oxford Coat Of Arms.

This fine pair of excellent quality silver & enamel menu holders which date from 1904 are designed as a shield with the coat of arms of Oriel College, Oxford on a white background. The shields are enamelled in red with bordure engrailed argent and feature three gold lions with claws.
 
These handsome antique menu holders have octagonal bases which are fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1904, marked with Rowell Oxford to the underside and come in a fitted Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company case.
 
These could nowadays also be used to display photographs or business cards or equally look very nice on display just on their own.
 
Hallmarked: Fully hallmarked with Lion for sterling silver. Birmingham. Maker''s mark JWB. Date letter e for 1904.
 
Marked to the underside with the retailer of Jeweller Rowell of Oxford. Also marked with the reg design number 454426.
 
Dimensions of each menu holder: Width: 3.3 cm (1 1/4''). Depth: 3.3 cm (1 1/4''). Height: 3 cm (1'').
 
Total weight for the two menu holders: 42 g.
 
Condition: Excellent used antique condition with only light signs of use in keeping with age. Box has some light wear.
