A cute Victorian winged scarab brooch in solid silver with lovely bright cornflower blue enamel. The bottom of the wings are plique-a-jour enamel which creates a pretty stained-glass window effect as the light shines through.
Scarab beetles represent immortality and resurrection, growth and development. There was a massive revival of interest in all things Egyptian during the 19th century in the Victorian Egyptian Revival period.
Marked 800 (silver fineness). There is also a stamp on the side of the pin but it is not legible.
The brooch is in good solid antique condition; the enamel has some areas of damage, see photos, and the pin is bent out of shape but fixes securely in place.
Size: Approximately 4.2 x 1.2cm.
Weight: 3.3g.
