Finest Quality 18th Century Campaign Writing Slope

Description

Superb quality campaign writing slope in wonderful Cuban mahogany. Long drawer to base opened by brass campaign handle, externally brass bound corners and sides with an interesting chequered brass pattern to corners, the top with initialed cartouche with fleur de lis pattern. Also externally there is a rest to be used as a reading slope for a book (see photographs).

Internally there is a burgundy gilt tooled leather writing surface, one of the openings has a cross banded note holder. The opposite internal opening comes complete with working lock and key to reveal secret drawers. It also comes complete with an inkwell, store for pens, keys etc and a small slope for stamps.

Finally, this wonderful campaign writing slope which by the way is extremely heavy comes complete with a working "Turner" lock c1798 and key and is finished off with the base lined to protect whatever surface it is standing on.

The very best of boxes.
