Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 1920s through the 1950s, British clockmakers produced mechanical mantel clocks designed for domestic fireplaces and sideboards. Modern manufacturing techniques were combined with Art Deco styling, making key-wound spring-driven timepieces widely available for home decoration.

Art Deco mantel clock cases were predominantly constructed from solid timber and wood veneers such as walnut, mahogany, and oak. Dials were commonly made of silvered brass or painted metal, framed by polished chrome or brass bezels with bevelled glass covers.

Authentic pieces generally feature manufacturer markings stamped on the movement or printed on the dial face. Mechanical movements from this period include key-winding arbors on the front dial face and brass gear plates visible through the rear access door.

A wooden mantel clock can serve as a central focal point when positioned on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or library bookshelf. Pairing the warm timber tones with brass accents, modern books, or framed artwork creates a balanced composition.

Wooden cases should be dusted regularly with a dry soft cloth and occasionally treated with natural beeswax polish. The internal mechanical movement requires periodic professional oiling and servicing by a horologist every five to seven years to ensure accurate timekeeping.
