Antique Samson Style Porcelain Figurine “Music Lesson”, 19th Century.

19th century
Description

Beautiful 19th century porcelain figurine showing the composition of a shepherd boy teaching a shepherdess to play the flute. The plot was borrowed from a work by the French artist Francois Boucher (1703–1770), based on a painting he had done in 1749. Some experts interpret this scene as a young couple taking advantage of a music lesson to embrace each other. The young woman leans back against the young man's shoulder and his arms are around her neck under the pretext of showing her how to play the flute. The figurine painted in polychrome and eye-catching fashion. This is a gorgeous piece with so many delicate details and vivid colors. On the side of the base there is a Sitzendorf mark in gold. It’s highly questionable. It should be noted that usual Sitzendorf mark is underglaze in deep blue and is placed at the bottom of the base. So that's why, based on the good quality and style of this piece of work, we are in favor of the opinion that it was made at the Samson porcelain factory. A French porcelain factory Samson, established by Edmé Samson in Paris in 1845, it produced high quality copies of every kind of porcelain, including Meissen, Chantilly, Chelsea, Derby, and Chinese. These reproductions were created with great skill and can be difficult to distinguish from the original.

Samson porcelain gained a reputation for its finely painted and carefully modeled porcelain figures that it holds for collectors today.

Dimensions: Height 14.8 cm, width 10.5 cm, depth 7.8 cm.Weight 484 grams

Condition : Small chips on the leaves. On the right hand of the young man is missing the tip of one finger.
