Edwardian Pierced Silver Wine Bottle Coaster D & J Welby 1905

1900 - 1920
Description

An attractive, fine quality Edwardian silver bottle coaster with cast gadrooned rim, ornately pierced walls reserving a vacant circular cartouche and with a beaded rim above the foot. Fitted with a turned wooden base. Hallmarked for London 1905, makers Daniel & John Welby.

It measures 13cm (5 1/8") wide across the rim and 12.1cm (4 3/4") inside the base and 3.5cm (1 3/8") high. It weighs 153g in total with a separate silver weight of 107g / 3.4ozt.

In excellent condition with no damage or repairs and minimal handling wear to the silver. The wooden base has minor signs of wear. Also, unusually it is not attached to the frame, and doesn't appear ever to have been, so it is possibly a replacement but certainly made for the coaster and a perfect fit. It could clearly be permanently attached very easily should it be wished but it is much easier to clean etc. as it is and the silver inside is immaculate so I am leaving that decision to its future owner.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
