Stunning French Tulipwood Jewelry Box by Tahan, Paris C.1850

Description

A really exquisite French Jewellery casket by the very famous Tahan of Paris, cabinet maker to Emperor Napoleon III, exhibiting at The London Crystal Palace Exhibition in 1851 and the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1855.

The edges of the box are trimmed in polished bronze or brass, with intricate engraving on the corners, this work also frames the beautifully hand painted porcelain panel which adorns the top of the lid.

The box comes complete with a working key, once opened the signature for the cabinet maker can be seen.

Excellent quality and condition, measuring 7 1/2" x 5" x 4 1/2" tall.
