Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Indian miniature silk paintings developed from centuries-old manuscript illumination and court painting traditions across Rajasthan and the Mughal court. These works typically depict royal processions, courtly life, and mythological narratives using fine brushwork on textile or paper grounds.

Artisans traditionally used natural silk fabric stretched over cardboard or wooden backing, using fine brushes made from squirrel hair. The pigments were created from stone minerals, plant extracts, and gold powder mixed with natural binding agents.

Authentic pieces feature dense detail, hand-applied brush strokes visible under magnification, and natural variations in pigment density. The silk ground often displays fine weave textures and subtle age-related darkening along the edges.

Framed silk art works as a focal piece when placed above low profile furniture or integrated into an eclectic gallery wall. Pairing framed silk textiles with neutral stone, dark wood, or metallic accents enhances the detailed subject matter.

To prevent fading and fabric degradation, silk paintings should be kept away from direct sunlight and high humidity. Display behind UV-protective glass and dust the outer frame gently with a dry microfibre cloth.
