A pair of matching Georgian, 18th century, solid silver sterling salts with gilded interiors.
 
A unusual squirrel crest, of a squirrel in a “sejant” or sitting position, with his arms raised with a bushy tail, cracking a nut.
 
Present on both salts
 
In heraldry, the squirrels habit of storing nuts to ensure a supply of food for the winter.
 
Hallmarked for London 1798
