A fine and rare Chamberlain Worcester Plate .1815. From a service that was made for the marriage of Sir John Hullock to Sarah Martin. The border very finely decorated in pattern 864 and the central well with the crest of Sir John Hullock. An ostrich''s head between two wings, holding in the mouth a horse-shoe along with Hullock impaling Martin. Motto ''Tentanda Via Est'' , ''The way must be tried''.
Printed mark to the base and pattern number 864
Sir John Hullock 1767-1829 was Judge and Baron of the Exchequer. Hullock resided at Thorngate House, Barnard Castle, Durham, which he had enlarged to entertain other Judges
