Georgian Spode Porcelain Tea bowl 1814
Banana Tree Pattern
A set of Georgian period Spode London shape tea bowl and saucer.
The decorative pattern 2214 includes a handleless teabowl, rather than a cup with a handle.
Early 19th-century Spode cups nearly always had handles. Spode handleless cups are occasionally found with printed decoration in blue, but hardly ever with hand-painted decoration, as here.
In a Spode catalog of around 1820, this teabowl shape is not shown as a current option, so no teabowls were likely produced after that date—unless this set was part of a custom order.
In any event, Spode handleless cups are extremely rare.
The Banana Tree pattern was introduced around 1814
Both tea bowl and saucer are in very good condition.
Saucer diameter 13 cm
Tea cup diameter 8.5 cm
