Rare Limited Edition (1 of 150) Sterling Silver Battle of Waterloo Boxed Commemorative Medal (Salver )

Later than 1960
Description

Rare Queen Elizabeth II sterling silver Waterloo commemorative medal salver with the original presentation box and certificate.

Serial number 90 out of a limited edition of 150. Number 1 was given to the ancestor of the Duke of Wellington.

The Waterloo Salver commemorates 150 years since the Battle of Waterloo, with only 150 pieces produced. Designed by Bernedetto Pistrucci, whose intricate work took over 30 years to complete, the dies were delivered to the Royal Mint 150 years ago. To celebrate this milestone, Christopher Lawrence created the Magnificent Waterloo Silver Salver. At its center is an electrotype in fine silver of Pistrucci's original design, balancing the medal scene with the polished silver. The salver's rim features alternating arms of the Duke of Wellington and the Waterloo Lion, linked by a tracery band.

The Waterloo Medal, reproduced to Pistrucci's intended size, depicts the alliance against Napoleon with the crowned heads of the Prince Regent (later King George IV), Francis II of Austria, Alexander I of Russia, and Frederick William II of Prussia, each wearing a laurel wreath of victory. The border includes legendary figures, symbolizing the Treaty of Peace.

In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
