This is a rather lovely Georgian, English, engraved and polished double series opaque twist wine goblet dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1765.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 270 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The glass has an ogee-shaped bowl measuring 9 cm (3.6 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is engraved with a fruiting vine, the grapes having been polished, and a bird in flight to verso. The bowl sits on a double series opaque twist stem consisting of two white enamel cords wound around a central gauze. The stem leads to a conical foot which measures 10.3 cm (4.1 inches) in diameter. The glass is 20.2 cm (8.1 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, scratches or any obvious signs of restoration. It bears a slightly eroded sticker to the underside of the foot for the Harald Leuba Collection.
English lead glass weighing in at 390 g. (~ 14 oz.).
