The components of this antique service have been crafted by the London silversmith George Maudsley Jackson of Josiah Williams & Co in 1891; the components will have been crafted in the same year but due to the hallmarking system the items are struck with the date letters P and Q.
This flatware service features sterling silver handled replacement knives* crafted by Mappin & Webb Ltd in Sheffield, 1940.
This impressive Kings pattern cutlery is supplied in felt cutlery rolls; which not only protect the items in storage but significantly reduces tarnishing.
* ''Straight'' means all the pieces are made by the same maker in the same year.
** Predominately all antique silver canteens have replacement knives as the originals have not stood the test of time.
Condition
This antique cutlery set is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
The Kings pattern cutlery ornamentation is very sharp.
Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of each piece are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine and impressive Victorian canteen.
