Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Novelty decanters shaped as Scottish thistles gained popularity during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, driven by the Romantic movement and a fascination with Scottish symbolism. Silversmiths and glassmakers collaborated to create themed barware featuring stylized flora to serve spirits such as Scotch whisky.

These vessels were typically crafted using heavy hand-cut lead crystal or molded glass combined with silver or electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) mounts. The metal fittings formed the calyx or collar, while faceted glass stoppers completed the thistle motif.

Authentic pieces usually feature manufacturer or electroplate hallmarks stamped around the metal rim or collar, such as EPNS or specific maker marks. Additionally, genuine period glass exhibits hand-cut facet irregularities and wear consistent with age on the base.

A decorative spirit decanter can be styled atop a timber sideboard, a polished brass bar cart, or within a glass display cabinet. Pair it with crystal tumblers or dark wooden accents to complement its structured glass cuttings and metallic detail.

Wash the glass interior using warm water and mild detergent, avoiding submerging the silver collar in water for extended periods. Clean the silver plate gently with a specialized silver polishing cloth rather than abrasive pastes to preserve the thin metallic layer.
