Richard Earlom After Jan Van Huysum, Still Life With Flowers - Antique Aquatint

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Brave Fine Art

This beautiful early 20th-century aquatint is after an 18th-century engraving by Richard Earlom (1743-1822) of a work by the Dutch master, Jan Van Huysum (1682-1749).

In the late 18th century, Richard Earlom was commissioned as part of a printmaking project to reproduce Sir Robert Walpole’s extensive painting collection at The Houghton Gallery. The project was initiated when it became evident that the collection would need to be sold - eventually to Catherine of Russia in 1778. Earlom was particularly admired for his work involving florals and the resulting mezzotint engraving was rendered exquisitely.

This later aquatint was produced by the Berlin publishers Grauert & Zink.
