Description

An antique porcelain figure of a woman wearing late 19th century romantic style dress made by the Sitzendorf East Germany Thuringia factory in East Germany Thuringia. She holds the gathered flowers in the twisted hem of her apron. The special attractive and warmth of this figure is created by its creamy white color. Beautiful balance of the colour of the dress with soft undertones typical of the Dresden school of porcelain craftsmanship. The piece made from unglazed porcelain widely used in European pottery; mainly for sculptural and decorative objects that are not tableware and so do not need a glaze for protection. Stamped on the base with the Sitzendorf mark used from 1887. The tree on which the woman is leaning is drilled, suggesting that the statuette was made as a base for a table lamp.

Sitzendorf porcelain is known for its high quality and its delicate beauty; company became particularly famous for its statuettes, which depicted a variety of subjects: animals, children, historical figures. They are particularly prized by collectors, and they are often sold for high prices.
