A Spode bone china teacup and saucer of Etruscan shape with their iconic serpent handle. Richly decorated with a warm yellow enamel ground and a complex pattern of lavish gilding creeping into the reserved ground in the centres with chain link garlands. The outside of the cup has stylised floral devices in gilt with yellow enamel centres and the handle detail and outer rims also picked out in gilt. The cup marked SPODE and pattern number 4436 in red and the saucer with the pattern number and an impressed cross mark. The cup measures 5cm (2'') high to the rim (6.3cm (2 /12'')) to the handle and 9.5cm (3 3/4'') rim to rim. The saucer measures 14.9cm (5 7/8'') wide. In very good condition: the saucer has a star crack in the glaze but no porcelain damage. It rings perfectly and there are no issues with the cup and no repairs or restoration to either.
