Antique Victorian Solid Silver Naturalistic Cutlery Rests/holders - Edinburgh 19th C.

£650    $822    €780
We are delighted to offer this rare and exquisite pair of antique solid silver cutlery rests/holders made in the Victorian era with maker''s mark for J.R&S (possibly for James Rettie & Son).

The pair is crafted in the most wonderful naturalistic syle with a lifelike cast-silver design of tree trunks or possibly coral and its intricacy is magnificent indeed.

In spite of its age, it has been kept in very good order with exceptional details and crisp decorations remaining. The cast branches have been meticulously cast and then stippled to present a realistic effect.

Furthermore, practicality has been carefully considered within its scope of aesthetics and design so that they both sit flat on a table and provide two branch stems which allows for the knife and fork to rest on.

Overall a wonderful collectable and unique piece of Scottish Victorian silverware, perfect for displays or as a practical dining accoutrement in a wonderful interior setting. Ideal for lovers of unusual and novel silver items and for those looking to add a naturalistic/marine theme to their collection.

The pair are hallmarked with matching marks, with a maker''s mark, Victorian queen''s head and the Edinburgh town mark, however no date letter.
