Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Tunbridge ware is a distinctive form of decorative wooden marquetry and parquetry produced predominantly in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The technique involves assembling thin strips of varied naturally coloured woods into complex geometric or floral mosaic patterns.

Craftsmen utilised native British hardwoods such as holly, Yew, sycamore, plum, and oak to achieve various natural wood tones without using artificial dyes. These wooden tesserae were often combined with exotic timber bases like rosewood or walnut and occasionally finished with turned bone or ivory fittings.

Authentic pieces feature minute, end-grain timber mosaic tiles glued together rather than painted designs. The patterns usually showcase repeating geometric borders or detailed floral motifs, and genuine items reflect age-appropriate patination, natural timber shrinkage, and original turned bone or wooden handles.

A small wooden trinket box works well layered on top of art books on a coffee table, placed beside modern ceramics on a sideboard, or used as a functional desk accessory to hold small stationery items. Combining the warm wood tones with contemporary glass or metal accents creates visual contrast.

Dust the item regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth. Avoid using liquid polishes, solvents, or water, as moisture can weaken the animal glues holding the individual wooden mosaic tiles together; apply a tiny amount of natural beeswax paste occasionally to protect the finish.
