Fine Pair of George IV Gillows Bergere Chairs

Description

A pair of George IV solid Rosewood Bergere chairs attributed to Gillows. These superb chairs made in the finest quality rosewood, having a wonderful faded original finish. The stylised palm leaf carving to the top rail along with the carved roundels are exceptional. Having a cane back and seats of which are in excellent condition with swab cushions. The whole raised on reeded front legs with splayed back legs. Large scale, English, Circa 1825.

This type of chair was often sold in pairs to accompany Grecian sofas supplied by Gillows in the early 19th century.
