Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Glass specimen domes became prominent during the Victorian era as popular decorative display cases for natural history specimens, preserved taxidermy, floral arrangements, and clocks. They served to protect delicate items from dust and air pollution while showcasing scientific curiosities in private residences.

Traditional Victorian cloches were constructed using mouth-blown cylinder glass, resulting in slight thickness variations and micro-bubbles. The glass tops fit into custom turned wooden bases, typically crafted from walnut, mahogany, or ebonised timber, lined with fabric or velvet pads.

Authentic period glass domes typically exhibit subtle irregularities such as seeds, striations, and slight wave patterns within the glass from the mouth-blowing manufacturing process. Original bases show authentic wear to the turned timber rims and original velvet or paper lining underneath.

A specimen dome can be styled on a sideboard top, bookshelf, or mantelpiece to enclose collected objects such as dried botanicals, pocket watches, minerals, or sculpture. It functions as a focal point within traditional, maximalist, or dark academia interior schemes.

Glass domes should be cleaned using a soft microfiber cloth and a mild glass cleaner applied directly to the cloth rather than the object. Care should be taken to dust the ebonised wooden base with a dry brush and avoid exposing the piece to direct sunlight to prevent heat retention inside the glass.
