This stunning sterling silver gilt mantle clock is something very unique. Usually silver clocks of this age are in the form of a small carriage clock. It isn't very often that you find them in the manner of what you would call a french mantle clock especially with all the intricate detail.
i suspect this clock would of been a one of special order for someone of very high standing and of equal wealth as perhaps a gift for his wife.
The clock is in wonderful untouched condition, maintaining its original gilding and shows no signs of ever being restored which in my opinion is a wonderful treat i purchased the clock from the daughter of a private collector and watchmaker who had sadly passed away. The porcelain panels are all in great condition apart from a little piece missing from the rear panel, i have shown this in the picture but it isn't that noticeable. From my extensive research i have determined this clock dates to 1896 and was made in/by a London maker. There was a makers mark but unfortunately i am unable to determine that due to it being worn.
The detail and decoration to this particular clock is outstanding considering the size as you can see from my photos, the hands are a perfect example.
The 30hr movement is in perfect working order. The clock comes with 2 keys(not original) for time adjustment and winding the clock.
Although iv tried my best to include as much detail in my pictures as possible im not a professional photographer. any interested persons wishing to view the clock is more than welcome. Viewing is available 7 days a week but prior appointment is preferred.
