My aim when searching for tribal rugs is to buy what I love! I hope that is reflected in my wonderful stock.

I fell in love with this little prayer-rug in Istanbul last week for its fabulous depth of natural colours and shiny, lustrous wool. I have often said that the very best wool in the rug weaving areas came from the mountain sheep of the Baluch nomads and this little rug just oozes quality. The colour palette reminds me of a late client who summed up these darker palettes by likening it to 'oil on water'! I've never forgotten his obsevation.

Made by Baluch tribes in the Sistan region of south-east Persia circa 1880-1900, the central field contains a mosque design incorporating three mihrabs on a madder-red sky.

Stunning in every way - need I say more!!

Size: 1.32m x 1.00m (4' 4" x 3' 3").
