A Rare Pair of York Silver Georgian Tongs

A rare pair of Georgian silver tongs, assayed at the sought after York Office. These beautiful tongs are in Old English pattern and have a script monogram 'RL' to the top of the bow. As is often the case with York tongs, they have the Sterling Lion, the distinctive York duty mark for George III and the maker's mark. John Barber and William Whitwell worked as a partnership from 1812 until Whitwell's death in 1823. A desirable pair of silver tongs from a collectible Assay Office. Dimensions below.
