By American artist and Sculpture Pauline Boumphrey, with to school in Roedean in Sussex.
She exhibited at the RA, Walker Art Gallery, Manchester and
Artistes Francais in Paris.
Boumphrey was commissioned to do the 1942 design for a war memorial to the civilian victims of the Blitz.
This midcentury impressionistic oil painting captures a vibrant still life of flowers, showcasing the elegance and charm of purple Delphiniums, pink Carnations, and golden Chrysanthemums. The artist''s brushstrokes are bold and expressive, imbuing the scene with a dynamic energy and a sense of movement. The Delphiniums rise tall and regal, their purple hues creating a striking contrast against the softer, rounded forms of the Carnations and the intricate, layered petals of the Chrysanthemums. The rich colours and textured layers reflect the light in a way that brings the bouquet to life, evoking the freshness of a garden in full bloom. The background is a blur of soft tones, allowing the flower
...s to stand out as the focal point of the composition. This painting is a beautiful testament to the artist''s skill in capturing the fleeting beauty of nature with an impressionistic touch.
