An Exhibition Quality French Drawing Room Cabinet
Of canted form, rising from a plinth base, the two flanking doors having striking and well carved panels depicting Moses being found by the Pharoah’s daughter in the bulrushes, the other with an antique classic idyll; the centre door being glazed, and having internal shelves; four caryatids are at the angles. The backrail decorated with vertical turned spindles, flanked by reclining gods, and finials. The external woods being Circassian and Italian walnut, and having ebony cross banding and quadrant inlay; the internal shelves and doors being veneered in maple.

The cabinet shows affinities with the work of two prominent French ebenistes, Fourdinois and Grohe, and the quality of the piece predicates a Parisian maker of the first rank.
