English, Circa 1890
See ‘British Furniture 1820 to 1920’ by Christopher Payne, 2023, p. 458-459, illus. figs. 9.29-30, for a discussion of the Westwood Park chairs and 19th century adaptations.
The design for these chairs is derived from the set of chairs from Lord Doverdale’s Westwood Park. Besides being photographed and featured in magazines such as Country Life (1902), the chairs were also famously part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s display of the Kirtlington Park Dining Room, said to be one of the most beautiful Rococo rooms in England.
