Attributed to Maples & Co
Constructed from mahogany, nicely bookmatched flamed veneers to the front, supported on bracket feet and brass castors; with a carved Vitruvian scroll frieze, domed top, brass handles, and a lead liner.
English, circa 1910
Established in 1841 by John Maple, Maple & Co began its operations at the heart of London''s furniture center, Tottenham Court Road. Through the founder and his son''s dedication and commitment to producing excellent products, the company experienced significant expansion. This growth led to the establishment of additional workshops and sales points in Paris and Buenos Aires, followed by the opening of a shop in far-flung Smyrna.
Maple''s esteemed clientele included notable figures such as Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, members of the Royal Household, the King of Siam, and Nicholas II, Tsar of Russia.
In later years, Maples had the privilege of furnishing the Royal yachts QE1, QE2, and the Queen Mary, as well as hotels in Nice, London, Paris, and Siam.
