Fine Gilt-bronze Female ‘nuit D’ete’ By fine Gilt-bronze Female ‘nuit D’ete’ By Louis-auguste Moreau 1894

£2,450    $3,137    €2,955
• Louis-Auguste Moreau was born into a family of famous sculptors, including his uncles Mathurin Moreau and Hyppolyte F Moreau. He exhibited at the Paris Salon and also at the Exposition Universelle where he won many prizes. He specialised in allegorical and classical figures.

• This original Bel Epoque bronze group depicts a maiden, adorned with a gilded star, on naturalistic base, rose in one hand and in the other, holds a gilded sickle. A putto is tugging at her drapery and another is at her feet with bow and arrow.

• It represents one of his most beautiful Salon prize winning works (1894). Louis -Auguste rendition of a beautiful female face is superb and outshone most of his contemporaries.

• This original bronze is signed at the base and it sits on an integral gilt bronze plinth which is centred to the front by a plaque inscribed ‘Nuit D’ete’ par Louis Auguste Moreau (Salon de 1894)

• In superb original patinated condition with no damage and has been treated with Renaissance micro crystalline wax polish originally formulated for the British Museum that gives a superb protective sheen.

• Delivery UK £90. Please ask for Export Quote.

Restoration and Presented Condition

I do not subscribe to the shabby chic or make it like new approach using modern materials which can make future restoration extremely difficult and impede long-term investment value.
