Description

The pattern 2 Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife was produced by Wilkinson Sword for British Special Forces, specifically the newly formed Commando units, between 1941 and 1943 and is marked with a B2 to the crossguard. It comes with the original leather and brass sheath complete with attaching tabs and belt loop. It is in excellent original condition.

Designed by William E. Fairbairn and Eric A. Sykes in 1940, the knife was developed specifically for British Commandos and Allied special operations forces during the Second World War. Its design was optimized for close-quarters combat, incorporating a slim stiletto blade for penetration.

Second Pattern daggers typically feature hand-forged or machine-cut high-carbon steel double-edged blades, paired with a knurled brass grip and an oval steel crossguard. The companion scabbards were constructed from dark brown leather with a brass tip (chape) and retainers.

Authentic Second Pattern examples display a full knurled pattern extending along the entire length of the cylindrical metal grip, unlike the First Pattern which featured a plain raised ring section.
