Description

Flame mahogany longcase clock by Charles Shedden of Perth, circa 1850.

Fine quality lyre shape case with applied carvings.

Three quarter bow shaped trunk door, with carved cushion moulding above and recessed panel beneath.

Cast brass bezel, flanked by turned columns

Enameled circular white dial with subsidiary zones for seconds and date.

Fine quality 8 day movement, striking the hours on a single bell.

Finely fretted blued steel hands.

Charles Shedden. Clock and watchmaker, Perth, 1813 - 1871. Journeyman with Colin Croll working in London with McCabe & Strachan, Royal Exchange, before returning to native Perth. Admitted to Incorporation of Hammermen and Deacon in 1838 - 1863.
