Japanese Meiji Period Kutani Enamelled Porcelain Parrot

19th century
Description

A very rare and masterfully crafted model of a parrot.

Kutani model of a parrot, standing on a tree stump, the bird's feathers finely enamelled in gilded and brown with striking yellow, blue and turquoise tail feathers, the beak gilded and the eyes realistically detailed, the tree stump beautifully finished in a heavy treacle brown enamel with aqua blue and black detail, the underside unglazed.

The base is marked, apparently the author's signature.

Height 29 cm

Width 15 cm

Depth 10.5 cm

Weight 1036 grams

Condition: There are a few hairline cracks to the base. These are subtle - only visible under a magnifying glass.

There is minimal loss of gilding to the tip of the beak.

Otherwise excellent quality. Completely intact colours, enamel and gilding.
