Large Norwegian rosemaling ale bowl dated 1794 with typical hand-painted, swirling floral design and a message around the outside rim which roughly translates, '' Goddess, grant us peace and good years. May many good things come to me. Peder Fosle, 1794.''
 
Ale bowls were cherished possessions and passed down from generation to generation. They were used at celebrations such as weddings and funerals.
 
A large and extremely decorative piece.
 
Dimensions: D 38 cm (including handle) x W 29.5 cm x H 11 cm
 
In very good condition. Some wear to paint, paint running.
