Antique Domestic Regulator Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

A good quality domestic Regulator longcase clock. Choice flame mahogany veneers with rosewood crossbanding to the trunk and base panel. Satinwwod banded inlays. Corinthium capped hood columns with a wavy cresting surmounted by 3 brass finials. Chamfered trunk sides. A brass bezel to the dial. A circular painted dial with date and seconds indicators. A quality 8-day duration mechanism with dead beat escapement and a large, heavy pendulum. Brass cased weights and hourly bell striking.

George Claridge of Chepstow is recorded in Peates' 'Clock and Watchmakers in Wales' book as working in St. Mary Street from 1848-1871.
