Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early 18th-century oak writing tables typically feature solid joinery, turned legs, perimeter stretcher rails, and shallow drawers fitted with brass hardware. They represent a transition from heavy 17th-century joinery to more refined proportioning in British furniture design.

These tables were crafted using solid English oak, constructed with hand-cut mortise and tenon joints secured by wooden pegs. Drawers were fitted with hand-dovetailed joints and cast brass handles or escutcheon plates.

Authentic period pieces display hand-planed surfaces, irregular dovetail joints, wooden peg joinery, and natural surface wear around friction points such as the stretchers and table top.

An antique oak writing table can function as a hallway console, compact home office desk, or accent piece in a living room, paired with neutral walls and contemporary lighting for visual contrast.

Maintain period oak furniture by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a natural beeswax polish occasionally along the wood grain. Avoid positioning the piece near direct heat sources or in areas with severe humidity fluctuations.
