William IV Silver Novelty "Book" Vinaigrette Taylor & Perry

£425    $545    €513
A pretty silver vinaigrette in the novelty form of a traditional hand bound book. Cast detail to form the ribbed spine and fine engraved detail to define the page leaves and machine engraved textured front and back covers of the book with a vacant cartouche to the cover. Silver gilt inside, the hinged grill has very ornate pierced and engraved decoration of a large sunburst style central flower in concentric rings surrounded by flowering vines.

Hallmarked for Birmingham 1833, makers Taylor & Perry.

It measures 4.1cm (1 5/8'') long, 2.7cm (1 1/16'') wide and 0.6cm (1/4'') deep and weighs 19g / 0.6ozt.

Condition is very good. The main hinge has been re-pinned but the case opens and closes perfectly well. A very small minor scratch to the cartouche and minimal handling wear otherwise; the engraved detail, hallmarks and gilding are all excellent. To the inside upper cover upper are some small reference numbers lightly engraved.
