Late C19th Italian Neapolitan bronze �Grand Tour� souvenir sculpture , after the antique, �The Dancing Faun of Pompeii �Well-cast verdigris bronze sculpture with an aged �faux excavation� surface . The mythical woodland faun depicted entirely nude and with a tail , mounted on a plinth base . With luxuriant hair and beard , goat horns and a garland of acorns . The creature shown dancing In exultation his head and arms raised , on his tip-toes with a taut muscular physique .The original bronze sculpture excavated from the site of a villa at Pompeii in 1830 , where it stood next to an impluvium basin to collect rainwater , and now exhibited in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale, Naples, Italy.In excellent original condition with an aged surface and patina .
