Constant David Ludovic Artz (1870-1951)
A charming depiction of ducks in a pond by the consummate duck painter, Constant Artz. Painted in oil on to a wooden panel, signed lower right and nicely presented in an ornate gilt frame.
Artz was born in Paris but lived and worked mostly in Holland, studying at the Hague Academy. He was greatly influenced by the nature surrounding him being particularly attracted to wildfowl, which he never tired of painting. Towards the end of the 19th century, paintings of the rural idyll were in great demand and Artz’s paintings proved very popular.
