A fabulous quality antique Edwardian sterling silver five piece tea and coffee set in the Indian style. It is of the highest calibre, in fact we took it to the Antiques Roadshow some years ago, and the silver expert said it was the finest quality he had seen in a long time.
It consists of a tea pot, coffee pot, hot water jug a sugar basin and milk jug. Each piece is beautifully chased with Indian style figures surrounded by scrolling foliage. Scroll capped handles and s-shaped spouts, the handles with stained ivory insulators. Each piece with vacant cartouche.
The interiors of the sugar basin and milk jug are wonderfully gilded.
It is fully hallmarked for J Hall & Co. of Manchester, with Glasgow assay mark and date code for 1902. Total weight is 2.86kg
Dimensions are for the coffee pot.
An ivory exemption certificate for the insulators on the tea pot, coffee pot and hot water jug has been obtained. The submission reference is:
