A Chinese Export decorated travelling trunk. Painted leather over camphor wood, trimmed in brass, the decorative brass studs providing excellent protection to the trunk when on a journey. The camphor wood interior is stained and polished.
Many thousands of these trunks were made and exported from Hong Kong to the west during the 19th century. The majority were either black or green stained leather; occasionally we come across a painted one such as this.
