Antique Elgin pocket watch, stag, 1910.

The watch has a seven jewel grade 294 stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 14,314,746 which dates it back to 1910.

The watch is larger than a standard 50mm watch at 58mm diameter. The case is ‘silveroid’, an alloy often used in watch cases around this time and it came under various names such as silveroid and silverine. The case has a screw-on front and back, a nice sign of quality, although there are short scratches to the edge of the back where someone has tried to prise it off in the past.

The back of the watch has an image of a stag, with a rose gold wash over the top. There is some rubbing where the watch has been in a pocket.

The glass lens is in lovely condition, just one 3mm nibble to the bevelled edge at the bottom.

The signed dial looks good to the naked eye. There is a 2cm hairline if you look closely. Blued steel hands. The inner 24 hour dial is a more unusual feature.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
